A Mermaid by John William Waterhouse, 1900

The Mermaid’s Curse of Conwy

According to legend, a mermaid was washed ashore in Conwy

during a raging storm. A local fisherman found her, but when

she begged him to return her to the water he refused. As she lay dying,

the mermaid cursed the town of Conwy and all who lived there.

Soon after Conwy Bay suffered a fish famine.
